Press Release: Minister Henfield Receives Copie d’Usage from Her Excellency DAI Qingli, Ambassador-Designate of the People’s Republic of China

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises that, on 22 March 2021, the Hon. Darren A. Henfield, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received the Copie d’Usage of Her Excellency Dai Qingli, Ambassador-Designate of the People’s Republic of China to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Madam Dai is the ninth (9th) Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas and the first woman to serve in the position. She is married and is a career diplomat.

 

During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the longstanding friendship and bilateral support between the two countries and expressed the hope that, during the tenure of Ambassador-designate Dai, both countries would work to build upon those relations. Moreover, numerous matters of mutual interest were discussed, which included, but were not limited to: continued mutual support in the international community; the promotion of The Bahamas as an ideal travel destination for Chinese tourists; climate change reform and renewable energy usage; cooperation in the area of agriculture; and continued cooperation and assistance as it relates to educational opportunities and funding for future projects in The Bahamas.

 

The two dignitaries also exchanged information on developments on the ground in The Bahamas and in China in matters of politics and trade, as well as matters related to Caribbean and Latin American affairs.

 

In addition, Madam Dai informed that the People’s Republic of China is the midst of making another donation to The Bahamas in the coming weeks consisting of various medical supplies and PPE’s in support of the efforts to combat COVID-19, towards which the Ministry of Health is finalising preparations for its reception.

 

While the presentation of the Copie d’Usage will allow the Ambassador-designate to undertake activities at the functional level, she will present her Letters of Credence formally to the Governor-General at a later date
