Ministry of Foreign Affairs Statement on the Passing of Pope Benedict XVI

It is with a sense of deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who served as the head of the Catholic Church from 19 April 2005 to 28 February 2013.

Pope Benedict was known as a great theologian who was intellectually adept and whose life was marked with humility, benevolence and kindness as he sought to promote peace. His distinguished papal legacy will be long remembered by many.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, heartfelt condolences are extended to Pope Francis, Archbishop Patrick Pinder and the local Roman Catholic Community and the wider Catholic community on the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
and to his family and friends.
